Garage Door Openers

Garage openers & gate remotes battery

Find the battery used by common Chamberlain, LiftMaster, Genie and gate remotes. The complete 23-row table remains visible even when JavaScript is blocked.

The model number printed inside the remote is more useful than the opener brand on the garage wall. Search that number below. Frequency is included because two remotes with the same shape can use different radio systems and are not necessarily interchangeable.

Remote battery or opener backup battery?

They solve different problems. A handheld remote normally uses a coin cell or small 12-volt battery. A wireless keypad often uses a 9-volt battery. Battery-backup openers have a much larger rechargeable pack inside the motor unit so the door can move during a power outage. Do not order a remote cell to silence a beeping opener.

A clean replacement procedure

  1. Photograph the label and battery orientation before removal.
  2. Open the case at its intended notch; old plastic tabs break easily.
  3. Match the entire code, including a 23A/A23 distinction and the number of CR2032 cells.
  4. Install the battery without touching both faces, close the case and test from beside the door.

A battery change does not normally erase programming. If the remote still fails, check whether the wall control operates the opener, then inspect the remote’s contacts and LED. Reprogramming should come after those checks, not before them.

Compatibility note: frequency alone does not prove compatibility. Security+ 2.0, Intellicode, rolling-code and fixed-code transmitters use different protocols.
